Montaña

Montaña is a residential area in the east of Willemstad, the capital of Curaçao. The district is located approximately 5 kilometers east of the Schottegat, the natural harbor of Willemstad. It borders on the Groot Sint Joris district in the north, the Fuik district in the east, the Rooi Santu and Jan Sofat districts in the south and the Santa Rosa district in the west. The name Montaña is derived from the Spanish word for mountain.

It is a relatively large district, which in turn is subdivided into smaller districts, such as Montaña Abou, Hoenderberg, Beurs, Lang Leven, Montaña Rey, Montaña Rey Noord, Oudewater, Gustavia, Katoentuin and Welgelegen.

The nearest public beaches are Caracasbaai, Baya Beach and Jan Thiel Bay in the Jan Thiel area south of Montaña. From Montaña, these beaches can be reached in 10 to 15 minutes by car (7 to 10 kilometers). In the north of Montaña, in the Groot Sint Joris district, you will find an aloe vera plantation, the Aloe Vera Plantation Curaçao.
