Curaçao government introduces room-tax to generate more budget to promote Curaçao as tourist destination.
March 3, 2010 - As of January 1st of 2010, every business or individual offering lodgings to tourists or non-registered temporary residents will have to pay 7% room tax.

This so called room tax was created In order to provide the Curacao Tourist Bureau (CTB) with funds to promote Curaçao as tourist destination to a wordwide audience.

All owners of accommodations providing lodging facilities to tourists and non-registered temporary residents will have to register with CTB. The will have to charge this roomtax to anyone not registered with Curacao civil registration (Kranshi). Lodging revenue reports and tax payments are due on a monthly basis, within 15 days after months end. Non compliance may result in serious fines of up to Nafl 10.000.

The room tax will replace the revenue tax that used to be applicable to lodging revenue.
